Are You CERTified?

Too often I feel that we get into a “bug out” mentality that leads us to think we’ll be fending for ourselves in all circumstances, always looking out for number one.

I disagree. While there are a select few instances in which we must reduce our focus to our own life and our immediate family, I think that the majority of scenarios will involve neighbors (ideally and hopefully) working together to get through whatever has happened.

Enter CERT. Becoming CERT trained is an important part of your personal preparedness and a necessary tool in being of use to neighbors during a TEOTWAWKI scenario. Here’s a summary of the program:

Reminder: Utah Preppers Meetup Tomorrow Night!

philtodd_sml

Don’t forget the meetup tomorrow night!   It will be a very informal get together, kids and spouses are welcome!

Where: Cabelas in Lehi, upstairs in the restaraunt

When: 6:00 pm, Jan 19

Come on up and grab some food and join us, we’ll be sitting around for a couple hours visiting and getting to know some of you.  We’ll talk a bit as a group about what would be fun to do at a meetup – shooting would be fun :) – it’ll be a totally open forum.

If you’re a Utah prep blogger we encourage you to come and promote your blog, this isn’t about our website, it’s about preppers in the area getting together and having fun!  Feel free to invite your readers if you like.

Inauguration Day = Utah Preppers First Meetup!

We’ve been discussing this for a while and even took a poll here on the site – Tuesday night was considered to be the best night to get together so with that in mind we’re going to do it – on Inauguration Day!

This will be a very informal meetup – we just want to get together, meet some local preppers and hang out for a bit. Hopefully we’ll have a good discussion about what we should do for future meetups – there are several possibilities there. We’re going to meet in the upstairs restaurant at Cabelas in Lehi at 6:00 pm on Tuesday January 20th, 2009. Hope to see you there!

Summation:

Utah Preppers Meetup

Cabelas, Lehi in the restaraunt

Jan 20th, 6:00 pm – whenever.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention, let us know in the comments if you plan on coming!  It would be nice to have an idea of what to expect.

Organizing the First Utah Preppers Meetup

We’ve been thinking about this for a bit, now it’s time to put it to the test – Who amongst us would be interested in having a prepper meetup?  The first one would be informal, a meet and greet, there we would decide what kind of format we wanted future meetups to take.  Future meetups might have presenters on a prep topic, could be a lead discussion, demonstration of certain technique, prep poetry reading – whatever.  Although this will be sponsored by Utah Preppers, we want to invite other regional bloggers on prepping to come along and invite their readership as well.

We’ve had some interest expressed now we would like to measure it.  We’re thinking after the holidays, so some time in January.  We’ll never get a consensus on the night to do it, but what would be better?  Tues/Wed/Fri?  We’ll try to let the majority rule here :)  So here are the options: Jan 13, 16 or 22.

Please let us know if you’re interested and what date would work better for you!

Celente Predicts Revolution, Food Riots, Tax Rebellions By 2012

I saw this reported on a number of web site, here is one of them.

It seems more and more likely that we have only seen the beginning of the financial chaos that is to come. This goes along with our post last week about the Top 10 Tips To Prepare For A Depression and our post on Why we prep.

Top trend forecaster, renowned for being accurate in the past, says that America will cease to be a developed nation within 4 years, crisis will be “worse than the great depression”.

The man who predicted the 1987 stock market crash and the fall of the Soviet Union is now forecasting revolution in America, food riots and tax rebellions – all within four years, while cautioning that putting food on the table will be a more pressing concern than buying Christmas gifts by 2012.

Gerald Celente, the CEO of Trends Research Institute, is renowned for his accuracy in predicting future world and economic events, which will send a chill down your spine considering what he told Fox News this week.

Celente says that by 2012 America will become an undeveloped nation, that there will be a revolution marked by food riots, squatter rebellions, tax revolts and job marches, and that holidays will be more about obtaining food, not gifts

“We’re going to see the end of the retail Christmas….we’re going to see a fundamental shift take place….putting food on the table is going to be more important that putting gifts under the Christmas tree,” said Celente, adding that the situation would be “worse than the great depression”.

“America’s going to go through a transition the likes of which no one is prepared for,” said Celente, noting that people’s refusal to acknowledge that America was even in a recession highlights how big a problem denial is in being ready for the true scale of the crisis.

Celente, who successfully predicted the 1997 Asian Currency Crisis, the subprime mortgage collapse and the massive devaluation of the U.S. dollar, told UPI in November last year that the following year would be known as “The Panic of 2008,” adding that “giants (would) tumble to their deaths,” which is exactly what we have witnessed with the collapse of Lehman Brothers, Bear Stearns and others. He also said that the dollar would eventually be devalued by as much as 90 per cent.

The consequence of what we have seen unfold this year would lead to a lowering in living standards, Celente predicted a year ago, which is also being borne out by plummeting retail sales figures.

The prospect of revolution was a concept echoed by a British Ministry of Defence report last year, which predicted that within 30 years, the growing gap between the super rich and the middle class, along with an urban underclass threatening social order would mean, “The world’s middle classes might unite, using access to knowledge, resources and skills to shape transnational processes in their own class interest,” and that, “The middle classes could become a revolutionary class.”

In a separate recent interview, Celente went further on the subject of revolution in America.

“There will be a revolution in this country,” he said. “It’s not going to come yet, but it’s going to come down the line and we’re going to see a third party and this was the catalyst for it: the takeover of Washington, D. C., in broad daylight by Wall Street in this bloodless coup. And it will happen as conditions continue to worsen.”

“The first thing to do is organize with tax revolts. That’s going to be the big one because people can’t afford to pay more school tax, property tax, any kind of tax. You’re going to start seeing those kinds of protests start to develop.”

“It’s going to be very bleak. Very sad. And there is going to be a lot of homeless, the likes of which we have never seen before. Tent cities are already sprouting up around the country and we’re going to see many more.”

“We’re going to start seeing huge areas of vacant real estate and squatters living in them as well. It’s going to be a picture the likes of which Americans are not going to be used to. It’s going to come as a shock and with it, there’s going to be a lot of crime. And the crime is going to be a lot worse than it was before because in the last 1929 Depression, people’s minds weren’t wrecked on all these modern drugs – over-the-counter drugs, or crystal meth or whatever it might be. So, you have a huge underclass of very desperate people with their minds chemically blown beyond anybody’s comprehension.”

The George Washington blog has compiled a list of quotes attesting to Celente’s accuracy as a trend forecaster.

In conjunction with GeeksNGuns, we’re going to organize a meet-up opportunity at the gunshow this weekend!

Here are the details on the show:

Crossroads of the West Gunshow, Salt Lake City, Utah

Dates: November 22nd – 23rd

Time: Sat 9 am – 5 pm, Sun 9 am – 4 pm

Location: South Towne Expo Center (click for directions)

Admission: $10.00

– Get a $1.00 off gunshow admission coupon here

Meetup Plans:

We’re going to meet at 9:00 INSIDE the show.  We’ll gather at the northern entrance door and head into the show.

Parking at the show usually stinks when there’s NOT a rush – which there is sure to be this year – so get there, get parked, give’m your ticket and we’ll meet you inside!

We’ll probably try to setup a shoot meet-up as well – I know if I can get the guns I’m after I’m going to want to go fire them!  We’ll have details on that shortly.

You don’t have to RSVP to come but if you do we’ll know to watch and wait for you before we head into the show.  See you there!

GeeksNGuns Event Tomorrow

Tomorrow at 9 there is a GeeksNGuns event, some fun stuff.  If you’ve been interested in getting to know some local shooters, or try out any equipment before making a purchase, this is a good one to attend.

November Crossroads Gunshow

Are any other Utah locals (or regional folks) planning on heading to the Crossroads gun show on the 22nd?  The last few shows have had variable results in terms of deals, and content.  But given the amount of choices we have around here, especially with current federal expectations I know I plan on going.  Any one else wanting to meet up/carpool/etc?
