A Liberal’s View of Preppers

gunsI’m writing this in response to a blog post by a liberal blogger that appears to live in Oregon and calls Barney Frank her hero!

She recently blogged that:

Preppers Scare the Crap Out of Me

In a post which is loaded with prejudice, falsehoods, slander and other good stuff.   I’m writing this response for a couple reasons.  First, to try to explore the thoughts and mindset of those who are dead-set against being prepared for hard times.  Second, to look at some of the falsehoods presented in her post.  Third, to rant a bit about crazy people who believe that everything is peachy in the world.

She starts out with saying that her “friend’s” local police chief says it’s hard for him to buy any kind of weapons or ammunition these days.  Why? “Because of preppers.”  Excuse me?  Because of preppers?  Here is the photo she attaches next to that statement – I can only assume that this is ‘evidence’ that preppers are causing police officers to not be able to buy guns:

An Oregonian prepper and his little friends

An Oregonian prepper and his little friends

Let’s take a look at that picture.  Now, this liberal tart has probably never touched a gun, if she’s even seen one, and she’s undoubtedly never been in a gun store.  So it’s unlikely that she would realize that this picture is clearly taken in a gun store.  My bet is that it’s the strong room of a pawn shop.  I’ve never met anyone that kept tags on their guns like that.  But those tags sure look to me like the ones a lot of pawn shops use to mark their guns.

Anyway, apparently it’s preppers that are making it hard for the aforementioned Police Chief to procure weapons and ammunition.  I have a question for the Chief – why do you need to replace your arsenal?  I can walk out my door right now and purchase an AR-15, AK-47 and all kinds of other guns without any problems.  What is wrong with this Police Chief that he can’t seem to keep track of his weapons or replace them?  As for ammunition, yes it’s hard to get certain ammo, but it’s not impossible.  It’s hard for all of us!  The explanation I see most often from the ammo manufacturers is that it’s due to the war – for some reason our soldiers keep shooting their guns!

Then she quotes an article in The Oregonian which based on this article, I can only assume that they’re an Obama loving anti-conservative publication.  Here’s some of what they have to say in this extremely inflammatory hatchet job:

“People fear change; people get angry when they don’t understand something,” said La Grande City Councilman Steve Clements, 52, who teaches finance and information systems at Eastern Oregon University. “I think there is a lot of fear associated with having the first black president.”

But Clements, the La Grande councilman, doesn’t worry too much about social disintegration. He has faith in humanity’s values, sense of responsibility and moral integrity.

It’s the preppers he worries about:

“I would be afraid if they were the ones who decided they were going to take control after the collapse.”

Fear associated with the first black president?  Are you kidding me?  This city councilman thinks he needs to play the race card here?  This moron just painted every single prepper as a racist.  Good Grief.  He has faith in humanity’s values – really?  Then why does he think that those who feel differently are racist?  I want to spit on his shoes.

Oh, and Look!  If you click on the link for that article, it clearly states that the picture featured on liberal girl’s blog post was well, what I said it was:

Welder and gunsmith Jim Rector, at his La Grande shop with a World War I-era shotgun, says he’s prepared if Western civilization collapses, as modern survivalists fear. He has weapons and food stashed, plus a remote hideaway staked out.

But hey, if she wants to lie, distort and bend the truth to try to make her point, well, who am I to stop her???

Her next point is that:

For 8 years, we democrats were mad as hell and we swore we weren’t going to take it anymore.  So what did we do?  We bought bumper stickers.  Lots and lots of bumper stickers for our little, green, I’ll-Make-The-World-A-Better-Place-Myself, hybrid cars.

Hey look!  We have something in common!  I have lots and lots of bumper stickers too – see!

BumperStickers

Well, we probably don’t have the SAME bumper stickers ;)

And uh, for the record Miss Liberal, pretty much every prepper I know was as sick of Bush as any Democrat.  I know I was.  In fact, most preppers I know were preparing before and during the time Bush was in office.  I know that you liberals think your greatest weapon is to blame Bush for everything but the bottom line is, as bad as Bush was – Obama is a thousand times worse – and he’s only been in for 8 or so months!

She then goes on to quote from the American Prepper Network “You might be a prepper if” that is clearly preppers mocking preppers.  These kind of lists are made all the time and are meant to be self-mocking but she takes it as some kind of indictment against preppers.

She signs off with:

I don’t know if they’re kidding but I do know I’m ready to give these people their crazy Priestess Palin, leave them to turn the country into a gun-toting commune, and move to Canada.

For now though, I’m stocking up on sugary rum and tequila and calling it a day.

Now, rum and tequila are probably good items to stock up to barter with – but I’m not sure she’ll be able to eat for long on that.

  1. Lol Bryce, thanks for the tip! I guess I should have kept on keeping on debunking her. Here I thought it was a mercy to her. Guess I’ll need to do an update too! :)

  3. Where there is a will there is a way. Where there is fire there is smoke. Where there is a liberal there is a lie.

While the first and second can rarely not be the case, the third is as dependable as the sky being blue.

As for being worried about preppers rebuilding after the collapse; it only makes sense that constitutionalist would rebuild since constitutionalist built it the first time.

  5. One uneducated liberal does not represent the whole. I'm about as liberal as the come…Obama is a moderate in my view, and I'm not too pleased with him right now. But, I'm a prepper and read your blog regularly, so I don't like feeling attacked because of someone else's opinion and comments. I didnt read her article and don't plan to, but I'd like to continue reading your blog, so help me out here. THanks.

  6. I think that's exactly the point. Being a Prepper is not some party-toeing viewpoint. Yes, it's easy to highlight those that are considered conservative (on a flat plane) right now, but in reality the mindset is one of self reliance. And while we may not agree on many points, we can all help each other be prepared.

Soon I'm going to repost another friends response to this post, and he is definitely more liberal than I in many situations, but he had another great perspective in responding to both articles.

  7. Speaking as an Obama-loving liberal, may I say that most of the things you talk about on this site seem like good common sense (except, of course, that good sense is anything but common :)

Sure, we disagree about some political issues. Maybe even *most* political issues. But winter driving? Being prepared for a financial emergency? Staying away from credit cards? That stuff is just basic, intelligent stuff we should all be doing, regardless of politics!
