I enjoyed this book as well. I actually listened to the Audio book version. It was done really well.

As far as your post about keeping domestic meat animal in my backyard, that's one of the reasons that I have two large dogs. I'm sure that they will taste great a few weeks into an emergency.

I read the book in a little over 10 hours. VERY good book. Very well written and will make you think about every aspect of your preparedness. Made me realize I need to research about a faraday cage for my generator, my preparedness revolves around it for my well. Please get buy or borrow (dont steal) this book, you will not be able to put it down. Yes the author uses some strong language, but, he was writing about TEOTWASKI....

I am almost finished reading "One Second After". The profanity doesn't bother me (and I do not think it is excessive) because if an EMP does hit us and we are struggling for mere survival I don't think people will be using words like "golly gee whiz" and "shucks". The words they use in the book are the EXACT same ones I would be using in a FUBAR situation such as an EMP hit.

As far as the writing is concerned: the writing is good, the dialougue realistic, the plot is action packed and fast paced, and the questions it is raising about my own preparations in the event of an EMP make it well worth the read,

Yeah, as I read the book I scribbled out all the profanity. The friend I loaned it to appreciated the censored version, as he could tell from the numerous blue blocks of ink that the author was a little liberal in his language. :)

I picked up a copy Saturday night and had it read in twenty-four hours. I couldn't put it down. Save the excessive profanity, it was a good book. As Connor and Phil have stated, it very effectively helps you realize where you are and are not prepared. It scared me sick though with fear of those around us that are not prepared—those that have no skills, those with no storage, those with medical conditions and dependencies, and those with addictions. I am confident in my ability to take care of my family for a long time, but what about the others that will come wanting? An important preparation that I will have to start putting energy around will be how to interact with and support the community.
